NJ Hope and Healing - Full Time Street Outreach Counselor - Camden and Gloucester County

Center For Family Services is seeking a caring, compassionate, and creative individual to provide Street Outreach Services to youth who are homeless in Camden and Gloucester Counties. Center for Family Services' (CFS) Street Outreach Services (S.O.S) provides comprehensive, mobile outreach for homeless youth in Gloucester County and Camden Counties. S.O.S conducts a variety of activities that access run away, homeless, and street youth (RHSY) up to age 21, who are currently living on the streets or in other unsafe living situations. The overall goals of the program are to provide street based outreach to RHSY to move them into stable housing, prevent sexual abuse or exploitation and ensure the well being of RHSY by promoting protective factors. The core value of the S.O.S program is given the opportunity, youth can and will make positive choices in their lives.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Street Outreach Counselors provide street-based outreach to youth who are homeless and case management services. 
S.O.S. Counselors manage a diverse caseload of youth. 
The S.O.S Counselor provides intake, and counseling about shelter options, family reunification, and safety. 
The S.O.S.ccounselor serves as an advocate for youth in securing social services, education, safe housing, and job-related opportunities. 
Street Outreach Counselors engage youth though a positive youth development and trauma informed lens. 
S.O.S. Counselors build trusting relationships with youth in the community at a pace determined by the youth. S.O.S. counselors create opportunities and empower youth to play a primary role in the services they receive enabling them to develop their full potential.

Job Requirements (Qualifications):

  • High School diploma, some college or equivalent preferred;
  • At least 1 years' experience working with youth who are homeless preferred;
  • Ability to relate well with youth. Understanding of issues faced by youth who are homeless and ability to create solutions to these problems;
  • Understand and relate to the needs of youth with diverse ethnic, cultural, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  • Knowledge of Camden County and Gloucester County and willingness to venture into areas frequented by youth who are homeless;
  • Cleary communicate ideas both written and verbal form;
  • Bi-Lingual Spanish Speaking preferred;
  • Work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends; and
  • Valid driver's license in the state of his/her residence, insurance, and clean driving record

All positions require pre-employment drug screening and criminal record checks. Many positions require motor vehicle record evaluations and medical clearances.
