Substance Prevention Group Facilitator (5260)

Position Summary

As a Substance Group Facilitator, staff will provide interactive, age-appropriate group sessions aimed at preventing substance use among youth who are not formally diagnosed with a substance use disorder. This role focuses on education, early intervention, and skill-building to reduce risk factors and strengthen protective factors in young people.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Facilitate group therapy sessions using evidence-based expressive therapy techniques about substance use, peer pressure, healthy coping mechanisms, and the impact of drugs and alcohol on development and decision-making.

  • Provide youth with structured and guided activities, on the program's site or in the community, which are participatory in nature and directly related to the youth's treatment planning needs.

  • Complete required documentation within established timeframes per Federal, State, County, and agency regulations, policy, contracts and or program's Annex A.

  • When applicable, integrate vocational interventions to promote skill development, independence and prepare them for potential future employment opportunities.

  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including program director. clinician, case manager and direct care staff to ensure comprehensive care

  • Provide regular updates on residents' progress and collaborate on treatment adjustments as needed.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of therapy sessions, progress notes, and assessments.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of expressive therapy interventions and make adjustments based on ongoing assessment

    and feedback.

  • Provide psychoeducation to youth on the benefits of expressive therapies and how these interventions contribute to

    their overall well-being.

  • Uphold ethical standards in the provision of therapy services, respecting the confidentiality and dignity of each

    resident.

  • Stay informed about current best practices and advancements in expressive/ allied therapies

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's level practitioner or high school graduate with 3 or more years of experience providing direct care to youth in a behavioral health agency or institutional setting.

  • Licensed, credentialed, or certified, where applicable. (Must follow the requirements for screening/background checks).

Working Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Ability to meet and fulfill all physical requirements of Handle with Care Training

  • Ability to walk up and down stairs.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods during documentation tasks, group meetings, and administrative tasks.

  • Physical endurance to handle a mix of office and community-based activities during the workday.

  • Ability to assist youth with daily activities that involve physical movement and participate in group recreational or

    therapeutic activities.

  • Ability to travel to various locations, including family homes, community organizations, and program sites.

  • Capability to navigate staircases, uneven terrain, and other physical environments encountered during community visits.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

  • Be comfortable working in various residential settings, including shared spaces and therapy rooms.

  • Provide assistance in the use of adaptive equipment & assistive devices for youth with specific needs.

  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard, and other office equipment with precision.

  • Visual acuity to review documents, input data, and perform detailed tasks.

  • Adequate hearing and speech capabilities to engage in conversations, presentations, and phone communication

    clearly and effectively.

  • May be exposed to various smells and odors and may interact with individuals who may not adhere to standards of

    personal hygiene.
