Position Summary:
The Peer Associate and Child Development Specialist plays a dual role at the recovery center. We are looking for a person with at least two years of personal recovery who will assist individuals who are contemplating recovery, in recovery, or have other recovery-based goals. This individual must embrace multiple pathways of recovery. In addition, as a part-time Child Development Specialist, they would create a friendly, safe, and educational environment for adolescent girls struggling with life challenges as well as providing support and guidance to assist in overcoming obstacles.
Location: Voorhees, NJ
Job Type/Status: Part Time, **This position requires the individual to work evening hours and Saturdays
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain a minimum quarterly telephone contact with members to determine how the mentee is doing and offer assistance where needed.
- Assist members in developing a service plan that identifies needed skills and services.
- Assist members in developing and carrying out their service plans by assisting them in accessing needed resources through recovery coaching including, but not limited to, assistance with phone and online communication, and face to face appointments.
- Assist Administrative Assistants and volunteers, as needed. Including but not limited to, routine office tasks, including answering telephones, front desk coverage, photocopying materials for the center as necessary.
- Assist members by providing educational work shop that address the need of the community.
- Assist individuals in a hospital setting who have experienced an overdose.
- Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Director or the Program Coordinator when needed.
- Oversee and care for children in child sitting area for parents who are attending meetings, or other groups for no more than (2) two hours
- Tend to the emotional happiness of children
- Organize and arrange games and activities for children according to age
- Supervises indoor and outdoor play
- Instruct and assist children with personal needs including eating and rest according to established policies
- Assist with preparing and serving food to children as provided by parents
- Routinely inspect child sitting area is stocked with ample supplies, such as wipes, diapers, snacks, and sanitizer
- Provide one on one mentoring with each adolescent girl at least once per month
- Conduct outreach and promote the program
- Attend events at high schools, middle schools, and other programs
- Manage a monthly budget/program advance
- Purchase program materials/healthy lunch and snacks
- Design and teach educational/interactive lessons for each group session (i.e. therapeutic arts and crafts, teamwork activities, etc.)
- Recruit/schedule guest speakers who specialize in various educational areas which relate to the girls' life experiences, goals, interests, etc. (i.e. pathways to college, yoga instructor, suicide prevention, etc.)
- Plan and organize at least one educational or social field trip per month field trips (i.e. Springdale farms, bowling, miniature golf, JCC camp, etc.)
- Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Program Director or Program Coordinator, as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate's Degree/Bachelor's Degree Preferred (Some Peer Recovery or Recovery Coach classes preferred)
- Two years of personal recovery
- Compassion for others in recovery
- Organizational and time management skills
- Knowledge and experience of child development and child care
- Professional verbal and written communication
- Pleasant demeanor
- Organizational, time, and money management skills
- Knowledge of cultural competency and diversity
- CPR Certified
- Valid NJDL this position requires 50% driving
