About the Reconnect Program:

When a person uses drugs and alcohol, it can affect how they maintain relationships and connections with family members and friends. Often, loved ones of the individual are left seeking ways to cope with the stressors caused in their own lives. Reconnections is a program that offers peer-to-peer coaching and support services to family, friends, and loved ones of individuals with substance use disorder. Our staff will work with you to begin the process of healing from the effect's substance use has had on personal relationships and develop healthy boundaries. Through our comprehensive range of services, Reconnections will help you to better understand the effects of your loved ones' substance use disorder and navigating resources for their treatment and recovery. Additionally, staff will work with you to develop your own personal recovery strategy focused on your well-being.

Salary: $22 per hour

Position Summary:

Center for Family Services is seeking an experienced and professional Family Support Coordinator for the ReConnections Family Support Center. The FSC position requires experience working in the substance use field and/or lived-in experience; patience, dedication, understanding, and the ability to provide peer to peer compassionate support to program participants.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create an engaging and respectful environment that recognizes, supports, and encourages participants as important collaborators in their loved one(s) care for 1:1 peer support service; in-person, via phone or telehealth.
  • Constructs individualized wellness plans with participants that identifies goals with measurable objectives.
  • Offering resources to families seeking information on substance use disorder and behavioral health treatment. Resources include, but are not limited to, accessing treatment information through REACH-NJ, NJ Connect, private insurance, DMHAS IME Addiction Access Center, Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) options, etc.
  • Inform family members about Naloxone trainings to help prevent overdose with a loved one(s) with opioid use disorder and how to obtain Naloxone.
  • Advocate on behalf of families.
  • Inform and Educate families of "patient brokering" that may result in unethical practices during their time of need to seek immediate treatment for their loved ones.
  • Provide lists of 12 Step and Recovery Support Group Meeting locations and/or other Mutual Support Groups for families.
  • Using active listening & motivational interviewing skills to members to meet them where they need to be met, allowing them to share their needs, stories, and barriers.
  • Guide families using the CRAFT Method (Community Reinforcement and Family Training) in exploring effective coping strategies such as self-care, stress management, personal boundaries and more.
  • Facilitate psychoeducation and support group meetings as needed.
  • Offer supportive strategies on how to motivate their loved one(s) to enter and stay in treatment and connect with recovery support services.
  • Teach positive communication skills and be able to engage in role-plays with participants to rehearse effective communication skills.
  • Participation in outreaching and community events as needed.

Requirements:

  • High School Graduate/GED required
  • Experience: Has 2 or more years of experience working in the substance use field and/or lived-in experience.
  • Completes all required trainings and acquires CPRS (Certified Peer Recovery Specialist) certification.
  • Essential Driver: Has current driver's license, insurance and registration.
  • Applicant must be flexible and willing to work some nights for client appointments and the occasional weekend for events as well as travel throughout Southern NJ as needed to meet with clients.
  • Federal and State regulations require that employees for this program are fully vaccinated.
