Position Summary:
Center For Family Services is seeking a passionate, sincere, and responsible person to join our team as the Cure4Camden's Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Program's Hospital Responder, a partnership between Center For Family Services and Cooper University Hospital. The primary goal of the hospital-based violence intervention program is to promote healing and to reduce retaliation, re-injury and criminal justice contact by working directly with victims of gunshot wounds treated at Cooper Hospital. The Hospital Responder is responsible for direct interventions including bed side visits, intensive case management, and follow up services. The Hospital Responder supports the work of trauma-informed and culturally relevant programming in coordination with Cure4Camden, Cooper Hospital, and other external stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responds to the hospital in the aftermath of an individual entering with a gunshot wound.
- Connect with individuals who entered the hospital with a gunshot wound or family/friends using the intervention of Psychological First Aid as a means to connect with individuals, triage the situation, gather information to determine risk of retaliation, provide practical assistance, and link to needed services at the time.
- Provide continued support through a patient's physical recovery from violent injuries.
- Coordinate follow-up as the patient recovers. The Hospital Responders will work closely with the medical team to ensure that as the individual transitions out of medical care they have as much support possible to promote a healthy and safe lifestyle.
- Provide intensive case management to individuals identified as high risk for continue involvement in violence.
- Develop a working knowledge of community resources and agencies, their function, and responsibility to most effectively aid and provide support to victims of gunshot wounds.
- Serve as an advocate for individuals in securing social services, education, safe housing, counseling, drug treatment, employment, and other resources needed.
- Participate on the on-call rotation.
- Participate in individual and team supervision.
- Participate in CFS' Trauma and Violence Prevention Services' Cluster Meetings and Cure4Camden HVIP's Implementation Team Meetings.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Education Preferred: BSW or equivalent
- CSW or Violence Interruption Training
- A minimum of 2 years' experience working with at risk youth involved in violence is required.
- A minimum of 1 year of case management or violence interruption experience is preferred;
- Bilingual Spanish Speaking preferred;
- Must be living within 30 minutes from Cooper University Hospital;
- Must be culturally appropriate by living and having knowledge of communities in Southern New Jersey specifically those communities with high rates of violence including Camden City;
- Knowledge of urban youth issues, specifically youth violence;
- Must have strong communication and organizational skills, and possess the ability to communicate effectively with clients, staff, vendors, and the public;
- Ability to work well with diverse populations;
- Proactive, and demonstrates initiative, flexibility, and willingness to try new approaches;
- Basic Computer Skills;
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends;
- Individuals with personal experience in overcoming violence/incarceration/violence-related injuries/ gang involvement/the criminal justice system are encouraged to apply. However, should have a minimum of 2 years since their release from incarceration.
- No pending criminal cases or prior convictions for sexual assault, child abuse or domestic violence;
- Valid driver's license in the state of his/her residence, insurance, and clean driving record
