Salary: $150,000 annually

Position Summary

The Attorney works with clients to reduce the burden of outstanding legal issues that negatively impact an individual's recovery process and their ability to live successfully in the community of their choosing. The Attorney helps with a variety of legal needs, including access to government programs, housing, employment, immigration, and family law matters. The goal is to avoid incarceration whenever safely possible and to address any social inequities from a legal perspective. Complaint with funding source, contract and or program's Annex A

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as an advocate or counsel in civil and municipal criminal matters for clients receiving treatment for a Substance Use Disorder.
  • Be a liaison with the public defender (or the individual's private counsel) to provide assistance with the individual's case in Superior Court matters.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Supervisor, treatment staff, Navigator and system and community partners to ensure coordination of care and appropriate representation.
  • Ensure timely service delivery and collaborate with healthcare professionals on client care on regular basis in a culturally and linguistically competent manner.
  • Advise the Vice President on needed policy changes related to legal representation of clients and Navigator assistance.
  • Demonstrates progress toward program goals.
  • Carries out additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice as an Attorney at Law in the State of New Jersey
  • Minimum of two years of legal practice experience in field of law appropriate to the position.
  • Experience with drug charges and clients with an SUD preferred
  • Exemplary writing, verbal, and communication skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • Bilingual ability (Spanish/English) preferred
