POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Nurse is an integral part of the treatment team, providing compassionate and skilled nursing care to residents in a therapeutic environment. The Nurse encompasses a range of responsibilities aimed at promoting physical well-being, ensuring the safety of residents, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to support comprehensive treatment plans.

PROGRAM DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Complete required documentation within established timeframes per Federal, State, County, and agency regulations, policy, and procedure.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting all nursing assessments, interventions, and evaluations.

  • Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards related to patient confidentiality and medical record documentation.

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for residents with physical, mental and behavioral health needs

  • Screen all youth at intake, and thereafter as needed for any dietary restrictions or allergies

  • Train and ensure all staff are updated regarding medication management, dietary needs, and physical health and wellness needs of the youth.

  • Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and address any emergent medical issues in collaboration with physicians and psychiatrists.

  • Provide routine and crisis intervention nursing care to residents in accordance with established protocols and standards of care.

  • Collaborate with the crisis intervention team to manage and de-escalate acute situations while ensuring the safety of residents and staff.

  • Work closely with psychologists, social workers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to contribute to comprehensive treatment and safety planning.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to discuss residents' progress, update treatment plans, administering medications and possible side effects to ensure a cohesive approach to care.

  • Educate residents on health-related topics, medication management, and self-care strategies.

  • Collaborate with the treatment team to develop and implement health promotion initiatives within the residential setting.

  • Provide 2 hours of services for each youth within the program with a combination of groups (health/hygiene/sex education)and individual sessions.

  • Collaborate with facility leadership to ensure compliance with relevant health and safety regulations.

  • Communicate with family and health professionals concerning care of youth

  • Adhere to infection control practices and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.

  • Maintain compliance with established nursing standards

  • Protect the privacy of all client information in accordance with CFS privacy policies, procedures and practices , as required by federal and state law and in accordance with general principles of professionalism as a healthcare provider.

Qualifications

  • Registered nurse (RN) or a licensed practical nurse (LPN), under the supervision of an RN, with a current NJ registered nursing license and 
  • One year of direct care nursing experience with children.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for up to 2 hours during documentation tasks, group meetings, and administrative tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, as residential counselors may need to assist residents with mobility challenges and participate in activities that involve physical movement.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs.
  • Ability to assist youth with daily activities and participate in group recreational or therapeutic activities.
  • Ability to meet and fulfill all physical requirements of Handle with Care Training
  • Be comfortable working in various residential settings, including shared spaces and therapy rooms.
  • Provide assistance in the use of adaptive equipment and assistive devices for youth with specific needs.
  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard, and other office equipment with precision.
  • Visual acuity to review documents, input data, and perform detailed tasks.
  • Adequate hearing and speech capabilities to engage in conversations, presentations, and phone communication clearly and effectively.
