Position Summary:

The RA is responsible for the safety of all residents on the Safe House Campus as well as ensuring victim services are provided. RA report directly to the Residential Supervisor and is supported by the lead RA.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and security of the Safe House Campus
  • Answer all hotline calls/administrative calls, offering crisis-intervention, phone counseling, information and referrals for victims and survivors of sexual violence and domestic violence. Make appropriate referrals to the Human Trafficking case managers and Peaceful Tomorrows.
  • Document all calls in the DVRT/SART Log, intake log, stat forms and AWARDS
  • Make follow up calls as per logs documenting on logs and AWARDS
  • Provide intake for incoming residents and complete procedures with residents
  • Assist all residents with the requirements needed to ensure their well-being.
  • Provide house meetings for residents
  • Assist with maintaining the Safe House, including cleaning, organizing, photocopies and completing daily duties
  • Provide victims with case-related medical and legal information
  • Accompany victims to hospitals, law enforcement agencies and court
  • Assist with on-call schedule as needed
  • Assist with office procedures pertinent to the operations of the program

REQUIREMENTS:

The Residential Advocate must successfully complete 60 hour Domestic Violence training and the New Jersey State Confidential Sexual Violence Advocate Training provided by Services Empowering Rights of Victims (SERV). The Residential Advocate will have experience in advocacy, crisis-intervention and counseling and demonstrate sensitivity toward the needs of victims. RA will have experience working with people, especially on a one-to-one basis. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required. A minimum of 60 college credits or work experience and a high school diploma required.
