Residential Counselor - YES Children Shelter (745)

Position Summary:

Center For Family Services is seeking experienced and professional Residential Counselor for the YES Children's Shelter.  The Residential Counselor position requires patience, dedication, understanding, and a passion for engaging and providing supervision and structure for youth living in a residential shelter setting. The Residential Counselor provides direct counseling services, instructs and guides youth informally throughout their day-to-day activities, and co-leads recreation, and physical education activities.   

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Residential Counselor is a positive role model and provides life skills education for youth in the shelter.  This individual completes documentation and other reporting requirements in a timely manner, contributes on Agency committees, meets regularly with supervisor, and participates in other continuing professional development opportunities.  The Residential Counselor ensures that shelter structure is consistent with stated goals and objectives, reports to and serves on the treatment team, provides one-to-one assistance with difficult youth, and provides transportation to and from appointments. 

Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma or GED (with some college preferred)
  • At least 3 years' experience working with youth and children
  • Must have ability to provide leadership, be a role model, and relate positively to youth
  • Federal and State regulations require employees in this position to be fully vaccinated. According to the CDC, fully vaccinated means to have received the initial vaccination and at least one booster shot.  As you apply for this position, you will be required to be fully vaccinated.  Please ask if you have any questions
  • Current driver's license with an good driving record of at least three years
  • Vehicle with current insurance and registration 

About Yes Children's Shelter:

The YES Shelter provides short-term shelter care for male and female youth ages 13-17. Counselors work with youth for up to one month to provide counseling, educational services, and life skills training until youth may be reunited with their families or another safe housing alternative such as a group home or foster care.
