Position Summary: 

The Student Support Specialist works collaboratively with partners to provide a full range of attendance intervention and case management services to minimize the barriers contributing to chronic absenteeism as part of the Camden Initiative for School Attendance. This program provides support services to students and their families. Responsibilities include collecting, analyzing, synthesizing, and interpreting information needed to identify underlying factors and create appropriate service plans for students in need of attendance support with the purpose of re-engaging students back into the learning environment.

Job Type/Status: Full-time

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide outreach to identified students and their families.

  • Conduct one-on-one interviews and assessments of prospective referrals. Schedules intake appointments with prospective participants.

  • Develop and maintains individual service plans and records for students and families.

  • Review individual service plans and proactively connects students and their families to appropriate available resources and helps them apply for assistance programs that could ease and possibly eliminate many of their challenges.

  • Provide one-on-one coaching and supports as needed for students and families.

  • Collaborate with Camden Re-Engagement Center Staff to assist students who have dis-engaged or dropped out of school connect to alternative education pathways to obtain their high school diploma.

  • Maintain professional growth and development throughout the year by attending trainings and workshops that will aid in providing superior case management services.

  • Enter all documentation, including case notes and contacts into data system and examines trends/issues in the community that may be affecting families, partners, and stakeholders. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate's degree in education, social services, or related field, commensurate experience in relevant field may be acceptable in lieu of degree. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills required. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to multi-task, meet strict deadlines, and work under time pressure. Ability to work effectively as a team member and maintain a professional demeanor. 

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Ability to effectively use technology. Ability to analyze data to measure effectiveness. 

  • Experience working with community partnerships and collaborations. Demonstrated enthusiasm and passion for working with youth facing adversity, including students experiencing homelessness, poverty, and trauma. High energy and enthusiastic, with a strong belief that young people can succeed.
