Position Summary 

The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, efficient, and effective manner to the children, families, visitors and co-workers. Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Participate in weekly curriculum planning, utilizing the goals from each child's Individual Child Profile and IEP's when applicable; curriculum guides, pertinent texts, references, supplementary and illustrative materials. 
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy classroom environment. 
  • Assist in the planning, developing, and implementing the daily lesson plans.
  • Assist in the preparation of the classroom activity areas and closing/opening of classrooms each day. 
  • Greet each individual child and parent by name upon arrival warmly and with a smile. 
  • Be responsive and supportive of individual differences in children. 
  • Assist children with brief transitions which are then used for learning opportunities.
  • Extend block play, encourage scientific curiosity, dramatic play, and appropriately assist with all curriculum activities. 
  • Plan, with the teacher and supervise playground activities to help develop skills from each child Individual Child Profile and IEP's when applicable. 
  • Assist children set-up for the service of family style breakfast, lunch and snack. 
  • Ensure procedures are followed for children who are on special diets, receive medication and are ill or injured. When there is a need for a child to receive medication, will assist and/or administer the medication according to the approved medication authorization form and doctor's note.
  • Eat with children utilizing meal time as an opportunity for social interaction, intellectual development the development of self-help skills. 
  • Assist with rest preparation ensuring a minimum of 18 inches separation of cots; supervise rest time of children and help children to rest quietly, while recognizing individual rest patterns. 
  • Help children deal with limitations by offering appropriate alternatives. 
  • Know and use problem-solving techniques, when indicated. 
  • Participate in the evaluation of daily activities to determine whether objectives were achieved. 
  • Maintain required individual records on children to include developmental screenings and on-going assessments to include ESIs, ASQs, DECAs, and Individual Child Profile and Child Progress Planning reports. 
  • Maintain required classroom records on meal counts, child attendance, illness log, and Monitoring Tracking Tool. 
  • Complete the Fidelity Tool: The Creative Curriculum checklist in required time. 
  • Dress functionally and professionally to maintain the level of activity necessary to meet the needs of the pre-school child.

Work Environment: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions including heat, snow, rain, and humidity. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED, CDA preferred.
  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree preferred with Early Childhood Credit
  • 2 years of experience working with preschool children in a classroom setting.
