Program Summary: 

The Certified Mental Health Peer Recovery Specialist is an individual with lived experience with a mental health disorder or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder and being involved with the criminal justice system. They are responsible for playing a vital role in supporting individuals on their recovery journey by providing mentorship, encouragement, and guidance. This position focuses on building positive relationships with clients, correctional staff, and community partners while educating individuals on recovery pathways and linking them to essential services. Responsibilities include conducting individual check-ins and assisting clients in developing coping strategies to maintain long-term recovery.

Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Participate in Court sessions as required.
    • Provide clinical insight, case updates, and treatment recommendations including how urgent clinical concerns (e.g. decompensation crisis, non-compliance).
    • Serve as a role model by sharing knowledge, hope, and skills to encourage recovery.
    • Build rapport, sustain, and maintain positive relationships with clients, correctional staff, and community partners.
    • Conduct individual check-ins to review client progress, address concerns, and provide Peer support to assist in meeting recovery goals.
    • Educate individuals on recovery, treatment options, and available support systems.
    • Link clients to community resources, including treatment programs, social services, recovery supports, and any other services to build recovery capital.
    • Actively support individuals during the treatment engagement and retention process.
    • Assist clients with gaining, maintaining, and developing skills and tools needed to sustain recovery and achieve personal goals.
    • Guide clients in identifying relapse triggers and coping strategies to maintain recovery.
    • Maintain regular follow-up communication with clients through in-person meetings, email, or telephone contact to ensure continuity of care.
    • Work closely with Case Managers to develop and review individualized treatment plans as well as address any systematic problems or concerns.
    • Participate actively in supervision, case reviews, and training to enhance service delivery.

    Requirements:

    • High school diploma or GED or equivalent
    • A minimum of two years of experience in the guiding principles of recovery that assist individuals to improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and reach their full potential.
    • Two years continuous sustained recovery and CPRS/CRSP required or obtain CPRS/CRSP within 6 months of hire.
    • Valid driver's license per vendor agency requirements
    • Active Certified Mental Health Peer Recovery Specialist Through the State
