Position Summary:
Center for Family Services is seeking a qualified individual to join our Passaic County Family Preservation Services (FPS) team as the Outreach Worker. The goals of FPS are to prevent the unnecessary out-of-home placement of child(ren), to improve family functioning, and to make linkages to community resources while working towards the child welfare outcomes of safety, well-being, permanency and stability.
Duties and Responsibilities:
FPS counselors maintain a caseload of 2-3 families and provide direct services to them for 5 to 10 hours a week. After a comprehensive, strength-focused assessment, treatment plans are developed and full range of creative interventions are implemented based on best practice models using individual, family, and group methods. Interventions may include parenting and coping skill training, community linkages and advocacy. The FPS Counselor advocates for and provides concrete goods and services (including transportation) that are directly related to the family's goals, while teaching family members to meet these needs on their own. FPS maintains a collaborative relationship with all service providers which includes holding regular case conferences with DCP&P regarding the status of the intervention, permanency planning and referrals for needed services. FPS counselors maintain prompt and detailed case records and other reports required for supervisory and administrative purposes. To support the FPS model, counselors are available on-call directly to their families 24/7 on a rotating weekend schedule, to reinforce the use of skills taught or in the event of a crisis.
A qualified candidate is comfortable working with children and families in their homes and must be reliable, dependable, creative and organized with excellent communication skills. They should also be skilled at intensive case management and crisis intervention. Candidates must also have a flexible schedule that will support conducting sessions according to the families' schedule of availability which includes evenings and weekends. FPS offers excellent training and a supportive learning and team environment.
Requirements:
- Bilingual Spanish preferred.
- Bachelors required in human services or related field and at least two years' experience working with families, providing in home counseling and parent/family support.
- Demonstrates knowledge and experience in care coordination for families and community stakeholders.
- Embedded in the communities that are being served.
- Current driver's license with a good driving record of at least three years.
- Vehicle with current insurance and registration.

- Use of office equipment, such as computers, calculators, fax and copiers. ? Ability to perform a range of physical motions, including but not limited to: sitting for long periods of time; standing; walking; and climbing stairs.
Typical Working Conditions
- Requires working flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays. ? Work is performed primarily in client homes.
- Requires extensive travel to client homes and throughout the community. ? Involves exposure to tobacco smoke, domestic animals, household pests, and other conditions common to domestic environments.
- Frequent contact with staff and non-staff (e.g., client families, referring agencies, ? community professionals, community agencies / programs).
