Head Start Teacher Assistant- Blackwood

Summary: 

Head Start is seeking an experienced educational professional for the Teacher Assistant position. The Teacher Assistant assists the Head Teacher with the daily operations of planning, carrying out classroom activities and maintaining the classroom environment. The Assistant Teacher may all assist in planning, record keeping and other classroom related duties. 

Location: Blackwood, NJ 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Teacher Assistant treats colleagues and students as individuals with respect and dignity. This individual promotes and provides culturally competent client care and staff interactions that respond respectfully to the strengths and skills of diverse ethnicities, cultures and other diversity-related factors. The Teacher assistant is a role model and assists students in completing assignments, works in small groups with students, and eats with children at meal times. The Teacher Assistant provides leadership to staff and promotes a sense of agency with co-workers.  This individual helps copy necessary worksheets for instruction, prepares bulletin boards, performs clerical and non-instructional assignments as assigned, helps keep the classroom clean and organized and assists teacher with home visits and conferences. The Teacher Assistant attends all required staff meetings and activities, reviews progress in professional development and growth objectives with supervisor and discusses any issues only with designated appropriate staff.  The Teacher Assistant is responsible for understanding Head Start Performance Standards and local regulations and also reports any suspected child/elder abuse and neglect per New Jersey's guidelines and conducts self as a role model in interactions with staff, colleagues and funding sources in accordance with Center For Family Services' Code of Ethics. 

Requirements: 

  • Child Development Assoc. (CDA) or higher but an Associate Degree in ECE or related field is preferred

  • 1 year experience working in a classroom setting

  • Must meet current Head Start Mandates

  • Maintains First Aid and CPR certifications
