Position Summary:

Financial Opportunity Centers (FOCs) are community-based centers that focus on the financial bottom line for low-to-moderate income individuals. This means changing people's financial behavior in a way that encourages them to make a long-term commitment to increasing income, decreasing expenses and acquiring assets. FOCs provide families with services across three areas: financial education and coaching; public benefits access; employment and career placement and development. These core services are integrated together and provided to clients in a bundled fashion in order to reinforce one another and to provide a multi-faceted approach to family stability, income and wealth building. The Financial Empowerment Coach is responsible for providing direct coaching services to clients of the financial opportunity center, utilizing strong interpersonal and communication skills to deliver financial coaching, and to assist clients with short-term housing and financial needs while working to support the development of financial skills and behaviors necessary to become self-sufficient and well-versed in the long-term management of their economic resources.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one coaching services to FOC participants including assessing financial situations and helping clients develop realistic spending, savings, and debt management plans, improving or building credit, developing emergency savings funds, and building assets (retirement, education, housing, etc.), obtain employment, and increase income.
  • Facilitate group-based education workshops related to financial literacy, employment and career pathways as scheduled/recommended by the program manager.
  • Conduct client orientation into Financial Opportunity Center (FOC) and The Stable Families Project.
  • Manage outcome tracking system (Salesforce) and documentation requirement for the financial coaching component of FOC.
  • Maintain client files and respond to requests for additional information from Program Manager in a timely manner.
  • Work as a member of the cross-functional team providing services for clients enrolled in the FOC, sharing information, participating in team and network meetings, and helping to track client progress and outcomes.
  • Maintain documentation and reporting of services rendered in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Represent the program in a positive and professional manner, both in the workplace and in the community.
  • Participate in supervision/educational activities to enhance professional and job-related skills.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS/BA in Social Works/Psychology / Sociology or related human services field.
  • Experience in a social work or human services agency with recognized standards and policies.
  • Two or more years experience serving low-income populations preferred.
  • Strong communication skills and experience with written communication, electronic communication, and presentations to individuals and groups both internal and external to the organization.
  • Computer skills which should include spreadsheet generation, word processing, database management, and electronic communications.
  • Experience with Salesforce/HMIS database systems preferred.
  • Excellent social/interpersonal skills and writing ability commensurate with the communication and reporting requirements of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time up to 4 hours at a time.
  • Must be able to handle and use general office equipment and computer etc.
  • Must be able to lift / carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate to others independently or with the assistance of a translator or interpreter for the purpose of executing their job functions.
  • May be required to independently operate a motor vehicle.
