Position Summary

Center For Family Services is seeking an experienced and professional individual for the Peer Specialist position in the Star Program. Staff of the Star program provide recovery support services for individuals treated with Narcan (Naloxone) as a result of an opioid overdose.  This Program services can only be initiated by hospital providers and services include support for individuals upon discharge from the hospital with follow up phone calls and supportive services, linking individuals to treatment and recovery services, and providing education to members of the community on overdose, prevention, and obtaining Naloxone, a drug that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose when administered.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Peer Specialist works in a hospital emergency room setting, offering connections and assistance to individuals with substance use issues. The Star Peer Specialist is available to introduce individuals to the program and follows up with clients that desire services for at least 8 weeks.  This individual keeps proper documentation of all client encounters and provides additional resources to individuals and their family members who are interested in recovery.  The Peer Specialist is comfortable working with hospital staff in a fast paced environment and is comfortable using electronic record keeping for documentation, has at least two years of personal recovery experience, and utilizes the "many pathways to recovery" theory of care. The Peer Specialist is a key member of Star and is committed to the goal of helping people stay engaged in recovery. 


  • High School Diploma or GED is required, Associate's Degree is preferred
  • At least one to two years' experience in recovery
  • Must be able to work three days a week
  • Excellent driving skills and current driver's license with a driving record of at least three years
  • Vehicle with current insurance and registration
