Program Assistant (Camden Promise Neighborhood)

OVERVIEW

Established in 1920, the Center For Family Services (CFS) has been committed to uplifting individuals and families through an innovative continuum of care. Its efforts are focused on serving more than 10,000 families annually through early childhood, supportive housing, homeless prevention, workforce development, and several crisis hotlines. In 2017, CFS was awarded a 5-year implementation grant from the Department of Education to implement the Camden Promise Neighborhood Initiative, a neighborhood based effort to improve education and create family economic stability for Camden families through a birth-to college-to career continuum of services. This initiative seeks to improve academic achievement and family economic success in the lowest performing schools and neighborhoods in Camden. The four neighborhoods targeted are: Cooper Lanning, Bergen Square, Centerville, and Liberty Park.

POSITION SUMMARY:

CFS is seeking a full-time Program Assistant to support the overall operations of the Camden Promise Neighborhood. The Program Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative support to three Director level positions including scheduling, planning travel, managing grant expenses, and coordinating grant reporting. This position will also support relationships with partners and oversee food access initiatives in target schools and within the footprint community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide administrative support to Camden Promise Neighborhood Director of Operations, Director of Research and Evaluation, and Director of Development and Sustainability, including but not limited to coordinating Leadership Council meetings, scheduling meetings and events, making travel arrangements, and tracking expenses  

  • Build relationships with members of the CPN Leadership Council and community members to facilitate strong collaboration and open communication

  • Work with Director level staff and partners to complete requirements for mid-year and annual performance reports associated with the grant

  • Support general Camden Promise Neighborhood operations including ordering office supplies and equipment, managing vehicle use, and budget management

  • Coordinate recruitment for Camden Promise Neighborhood positions with CFS HR department; complete initial screenings of candidates and complete HR paperwork for new staff

  • Manage food access initiatives with partners, school based staff, and community leaders; supervise Food Access AmeriCorps VISTA member

  • Assists with coordination of community-based events to build resident engagement and enhance CPN program visibility

  • Has a strong knowledge of the CPN initiative, including the continuum of solutions, central intake system, and partner roles and functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, or related field

  • Prior experience with community initiatives/organizations or related field

  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
