Position Summary:

Center For Family Services is seeking a compassionate and creative Family Care Counselor for the Keeping Families Together program. The Family Care Counselor provides direct services to their assigned caseloads of families by utilizing the KFT model through in-home counseling as well as through peer groups designed to educate and empower families.  This individual uses a behavioral/cognitive approach and builds on family strengths to teach and model skills designed to improve family functioning in the areas of parenting, communication, and anger/crisis management.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Family Care Counselor establishes a trusting relationship with at risk families by initiating and maintaining regular client contact.  This individual works nights and weekends when necessary and is available 24/7 to meet the needs of assigned families.  The Family Care Counselor participates in establishing a Family CARE plan with goals, objectives, and activities, facilitates peer groups to educate and empower families, demonstrates for families how to advocate for themselves and their children, and collects and documents program intervention data and program activities in AWARDS. This individual works cooperatively with staff from CP&P and other community agencies, participates in on-going trainings provided by CP&P, DCF and CSH, conducts quarterly follow-ups with families to determine success of KFT intervention, and completes all necessary paperwork in a timely basis and a professional manner.

Requirements: 

  • Masters in Social Work or equivalent degree

  • At least three years of experience working with at-risk families

  • Must have a flexible schedule

  • Excellent driving skills and current driver's license with a driving record of at least three years 

  • Vehicle with current insurance and registration
