POSITION SUMMARY:

Recovery Specialists are responsible for providing coverage at the Hospital Emergency Departments by engaging and providing non-clinical assistance and recovery supports for individuals reversed from an opioid overdose.  The Recovery Specialist shall maintain relationships with survivors by contact for eight to sixteen weeks to reinforce, guide and ensure survivors that recovery is possible.  The Recovery Specialist will assist the survivor to gain skills and access necessary resources needed to initiate and maintain their recovery.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Compliant with funding source, contract and or program's Annex A

  • Complete required documentation within established timeframes per Federal, State, County, and agency regulations, policy and procedure

  • Core Responsibilities for Job Role/Sector:

    • Educates participants on multiple pathways of recovery, on how to appropriately navigate treatment, social service, and recovery support systems

    • Be a role model to by sharing knowledge, hope, and skills

    • Maintain relationships in order to assist individuals in the treatment engagement and retention process

    • Reinforces, guides, and ensures that recovery is possible, and is built on multiple strengths, coping abilities, and resources of each individual

    • Assists with gaining skills and resources needed to initiate and maintain recovery

    • Assists in establishing and sustaining a social and physical environment supportive of recovery

    • Link and refer individuals from the hospital at bedside to treatment using a client centered approach

    • Provide recovery support services based on the individual's preference and his/her needs 

  • Peer Recovery Specialists are scheduled in each emergency room 24 hours a day on select shifts.

  • Responsible for responding to hospital patients within 30 minutes to ensure prompt services are provided

  • Peer Recovery Specialist explains the program and their role, he/she engages the survivor in a non-clinical supportive relationship

  • Peer Recovery Specialist obtains all signed consents and releases before making any calls or referrals on behalf of the participant

  • Peer specialist and Navigator discuss cases within 48 hours on hospital interaction and navigator documents case review in AWARDS (Documenting the initial case plan in the individual's case file, as well as document how the warm hand-off was conducted, and all referrals made)

  • Working as a team with Navigator to link individuals to resources that address specialized social service needs to build their recovery capital

  • Provides supportive outreach and engagement, in hospital setting, for the purpose of furthering recovery including but not limited to; phone calls, text messages, and letters.

  • Develops a Recovery Plan which should include culturally competent and relevant services that identifies goals with measurable objectives, assesses strengths, can be used to work toward those goals, identifies barriers that can inhibit goal attainment, and monitors the progress made attaining those goals

  • Documenting an accurate shift log after each shift

  • Documenting each new case into the Electronic Health Record System (AWARDS) and following up with each participant in a 3-2-1 format as shown in the program manual 


REQUIREMENTS: 

  • High school diploma or GED, Associate Degree preferred

  • At least 2 continuous years of recovery or 2 years of practicing the principles of recovery as a family member affected by substance use.

  • 2 Years of experience in the guiding principles of recovery that assist individuals to improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and reach their full potential.

  • Must have a valid driver's license per vendor agency requirements
